Alonso Lopez-Mundo, 27, of Mexico, was previously deported from the United States and unlawfully returned on an unknown date.
ICE Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) Seattle announced his apprehension in an X post on Monday. US Border Patrol Blaine Sector agents assisted with the operation, according to ICE.
Court records show that Lopez-Mundo was most recently apprehended in Skagit County on September 4, 2024. He faces several felony charges including theft, malicious mischief, and criminal impersonation related to that case.
Authorities released Lopez-Mundo from Skagit County Jail without notifying ICE ERO Seattle, despite his unlawful immigration status and prior felony convictions. This is due to Washington state's sanctuary policies prohibiting local law enforcement and county jails from cooperating with ICE.

On December 11, 2019, Lopez-Mundo was convicted of unlawful imprisonment (kidnapping) and assault causing substantial pain in Whatcom County Superior Court. Both are felony charges and he was sentenced to six months in jail, court documents show. Lopez-Mundo was deported from the United States following his release from custody, according to court records.

Additional court filings show that Lopez-Mundo was issued a Washington state driver's license upon his unlawful return to the United States.

ICE Seattle has apprehended a significant number of illegal immigrants in Washington state since the Trump administration initiated nationwide deportation operations on January 20. An El Salvadoran "hitman" who was sought in his homeland for kidnapping and homicide was apprehended by ICE Seattle on February 11. Additionally, the agency has apprehended numerous illegal immigrants who have been convicted and charged with severe offenses, such as child rape, sexual battery, assault with sexual motivation, assault with deadly weapons, illicit drug manufacturing, and attempted murder.
Many of those apprehended were previously deported from the United States and are set to be removed from the country pending proceedings, ICE said. Records show that the majority of recent illegal alien arrestees obtained Washington state driver's licenses.
