The identities of the family members killed by an "uninvited" family member from Winnipeg have been revealed.
Durham Regional Police confirmed that Chris Traynor, 50, and his children, Bradley, 20, Adelaide, 15, and Joseph, 11, were all slain Friday morning by the suspect.
The family's matriarch, Loretta Traynor, is in hospital recovering from the attack.
Officers were called to te home on Friday just after 1 a.m. after several reports of gunshots and screaming. Upon police arrival, they discovered the bodies of four members of the Traynor familiy.
The only surviving son, Sam, was not present and was away at university.
The suspect has been named as 48-year-old Mitchell Lapa, who was found dead apparently by his own hand.
Police say Lapa drove from Winnipeg to Oshawa across provincial lines. It is believed that Lapa is Loretta's brother.
A motive has yet to have been declared.
"Investigators also want to speak to anyone who knew the lone attacker, Mitchell Lapa, as they seek to understand the motivation and reasons for this attack," police said in a news release.
