Ilhan Omar says Stephen Miller’s immigration rhetoric sounds like it's from Nazi Germany

Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar drew criticism Sunday after comparing White House advisor Stephen Miller’s comments on immigration to language used by Nazi Germany to describe Jewish people, despite Miller’s own Jewish ancestry.

“When I think about Stephen Miller and his white supremacist rhetoric, it reminds me of the way the Nazis described Jewish people in Germany,” Omar remarked during an appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation. 

Her comments were in response to a recent post on X from Miller, who has played a major role in shaping the Trump administration’s immigration agenda. In that post, Miller criticized large-scale immigration, writing, “This is the great lie of mass migration. You are not just importing individuals. You are importing societies. No magic transformation occurs when failed states cross borders.”

“At scale, migrants and their descendants recreate the conditions, and terrors, of their broken homelands,” Miller added.

The exchange comes as the Trump administration has recently shifted attention to Minnesota, where authorities allege a billion-dollar fraud scheme in which individuals, many from the Somali American community, stole taxpayer funds for social services that were never provided. Trump addressed the fraud case and Omar, who was born in Somalia, during a cabinet meeting last week.

“You know, our country is at a tipping point,” Trump said. “We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country. Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage.”

“These are people that do nothing but complain. They complain and from where they came from, they got nothing,” he continued. “When they come from hell, and they complain and do nothing but bitch, we don’t want them in our country.”
