President Trump was feeling so great on the campaign trail on Monday in Florida that he could barely contain his joy at being back among his supportive constituents.
"I went through it," he said of COVID-19, "now they say I'm immune! I feel so powerful, I'll walk into that audience. I'll walk in there, I'll kiss everyone in that audience. I'll kiss the guys, and the beautiful women!" He told the crowd.
In the first time since his COVID-19 diagnosis and subsequent recovery, Trump once again returned to the campaign trail this Past Monday in Florida, attending the first of four rallies scheduled to happen this week. His return comes just four weeks until election day on November 3rd and marks the beginning of the home stretch of the presidential campaign.
"It’s great to be back in my home state, Florida, to make my official return to the campaign trail," Trump told supporters at the rally.
To onlookers following Trump’s campaign, it should come as no surprise that Trump chose Florida to stage his return. As of data from October 12th, RealClearPolitics reports that Trump tails Biden in Florida by just three points—a state Trump won in 2016 by a slim 1.2 percent. Come November, it will be one of the key states in contention.
During the rally, Trump seemed energetic and eager to impress supporters with what he described as a full and complete triumph over COVID-19, at one-point even dancing along to the tune of YMCA.
"I feel so powerful," Trump told audiences.
Before the rally, Trump released a tweet on October 11, assuring audiences that he was no longer contagious and, further, immune from the effects of the virus. This came after White House physicians stated that Trump, was "no longer considered a transmission risk to others."
Twitter shortly flagged Trump's tweet as "potentially harmful." The BBC has reported that a second contraction COVID-19 has happened before, though it's a rare possibility.
Trump went after the Biden campaign, one of the focal points of the night’s discourse.
"If [Biden] wins the radical left will be running the country. They're addicted to power, Trump said. “They want to punish the middle class. They will replace the American dream with a socialist nightmare."
In a tweet made shortly afterwards, Trump also mocked Biden's drive-in rally in Toledo, Ohio, on Monday night, pointing out a number of gaffs made by the Democratic presidential nominee.
With one of the week's rallies behind him, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and North Carolina are next stops on Trump's campaign path.
