Illegal immigrants who charged National Guard at border may have been released into the US: report

The illegal immigrants who stormed National Guard troops at the border on Thursday may have been released into the US, according to New York Post reporter Jennie Taer.

Taer appeared on Fox News where she was asked by Dana Perino if any of these individuals made it into the interior of the country. Taer confirmed that many of these illegal immigrants were processed by Border Patrol under Title 8, a practice commonly known as "catch and release."

“This sends the message to people around the world that even if you act like this, you can probably get into the country,” Taer remarked. “They continue to push these boundaries and to see what they can get away with.”

Last Thursday, a mob of illegal immigrants breached razor wire and rushed the border in El Paso, Texas. Video footage captured the predominantly adult male group tearing down razor wire and acting aggressively toward National Guardsmen.

According to Fox News, approximately 300 people were in the group, with around 100 males charging at the soldiers. Only one individual was arrested at the time for assault.

"There are consequences to crossing the border illegally, and CBP continues to enforce United States immigration laws. Individuals and families without a legal basis to remain in the U.S. are subject to removal, and are subject to a minimum five-year bar on reapplying for admission and potential criminal prosecution if they subsequently re-enter without authorization," a spokesperson for the US Border Patrol said after the incident.

In response to the surge, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) had been instructed to arrest “every illegal immigrant involved for criminal trespass and destruction of property.”

The incident comes at a time when over 2.4 million apprehensions were recorded at the southern border in the 2023 fiscal year. Despite these alarming statistics, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has continued to assure the public that the situation at the border is not a disaster.
