When asked her favorite Kamala Harris policy, a supporter said she didn't know and wished "they would tell us more about that."
At a rally in Phoenix on Friday, supporters of Democrat presidential nominee and Biden's current VP Kamala Harris were challenged when asked to identify her policy-related accomplishments. The footage from TPUSA's Frontlines team highlighted a recurring theme among attendees where they are focused on Harris’ identity rather than her policy record. Harris has yet to release a policy platform of any kind.
When asked by TPUSA's Frontlines reporter Kalen D’Almeida about Harris' greatest accomplishments as vice president, attendees often cited her identity as a black woman rather than listing specific policy achievements. One attendee said that her biggest accomplishment was simply becoming the first female vice president. One attendee told D'Almeida, "honestly, I'm not too into politics, I'm just here for the vibe."
An attending supporter who was asked about her favorite policy by Harris said she wished "they would tell us more about that" and said that she doesn't know. She then mentioned Harris' "great work" on immigration and dismissed the widespread criticism of her handling of the border crisis. Illegal border crossings have skyrocketed under Harris' stewardship.
“Well, what is it? She’s the border czar,” the female attendee said. Another attendee dismissed this, calling her the "fake border czar," echoing left-wing claims that Harris was never truly in charge of the immigration issue, despite President Biden appointing her to lead efforts in the first months of their administration, in March 2021.
The first attendee criticized those who blame Harris for the current border situation, saying, “And it’s ‘her fault’ that all these immigrants are coming over, you know, to cross the border right now which I don’t think they are.”
A male attendee expressed that he doesn't see an issue with the border at all, saying, "We’re supposed to be a country of letting people come in and do what they like." However, one Harris supporter did acknowledge the problem at the southern border and expressed a desire for Harris to visit the area to better understand the situation.
"My personal wish would be for her to visit the border with the governor so they can see what’s going on," he said. When Harris was asked about her lack of a visit to the border in the early days of her czarship, she said that he hadn't visited Europe, either.
The responses come as Harris has been the Democrat party's nominee for president for past three weeks but has yet to participate in a policy-focused interview or press conference. Allies of the vice president have reportedly encouraged her to avoid long-form interviews out of concern that her responses could hinder her momentum in the race against former President Donald Trump.
