While a $28 billion bill has been passed by the House of Representatives to deal with the shortage, critics are saying the measure is too little, too late.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will assign an Inspector General to investigate the Biden administration's response to America's baby formula shortage.

The nationwide shortage is not expected to subside for another month or longer.

According to Blaze, "previously, Brian Deese, the director of the National Economic Council, told CNN that the Biden administration was working around the clock to 'tackle the issue from every angle possible' and that the Biden administration was aware of the impending shortage since this past February."

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found bacteria and unsanitary conditions at the Abbott Nutrition plant in Michigan, but waited months to act.

Abbott has said there was a COVID-19 outbreak among the company's employees, which caused the FDA to delay what would have been routine follow-up actions.

FDA data shows bacteria found in the Michigan plant are likely linked to two infant hospitalizations and two infant deaths between Sept 2021 and Jan 2022.

The plant was shut the following month, but, as of publication, hasn't reopened.

While a $28 billion bill has been passed by the House of Representatives to deal with the shortage, critics are saying the measure is too little, too late.
