Is Derek Sloan a racist? The CBC thinks so

Canada's establishment media is angry with the Conservative Party again. This time, it has to do with Derek Sloan (a Conservative leadership candidate) after he said Canada's Chief Medical Officer was "failing Canadians."

Going further, Sloan said that "Dr. Tam must go! Canada must remain sovereign over decisions. The UN, the WHO, and Chinese Communist propaganda must never again have a say over Canada's public health!"

Putting to one side the over-zealous exclamation marks (which is surely more offensive than the comments itself,) we can begin to unravel why the CBC and the other usual suspects are so deeply affronted by Sloan's remarks.

Like the CBC, Dr. Theresa Tam works for the government and yet does not expect to be scrutinized. Is it not true, I wonder, to suggest that Canada—by following the WHO's orders—has in some way converged Ottawa's and Beijing's pandemic policy?

We know, for instance, that the WHO has a disconcertingly affectionate relationship with Beijing's apparatchiks and princelings—made clear through Bruce Aylward's cringe-inducing interview where he refused to even suggest that Taiwan existed.

We also know that the WHO, alongside our dear health minister Patty Hadju, took every opportunity possible to congratulate China for their response to the coronavirus pandemic. Showing a stunning disregard for U.S. intelligence who revealed data fabrication and deception of, er, communist proportions.

Hindsight is 20/20, yet it has become painfully clear that if we were to follow Taiwan's policies over that of the W.H.O, Canadian lives would have been saved. Naturally, Sloan was rather blunt in pointing this out, but he is not necessarily incorrect.

What has been more controversial, however, is Sloan's following remarks: "Does [Tam] work for Canada or for China?"

Some commentators have suggested that this question was racist. Dr. Tam, quite obviously, does not work for China, and there is a debate to be had over whether Sloan is just saying this because Tam is of Asian descent, or whether he is attempting to be provocative.

Indeed, if Sloan was simply illuminating the problems of adhering to the policy of an organization that has quite clearly be corrupted by Beijing I'm not sure there would be an issue. He was, however, coarse in doing so to the point where legitimate questions can be made over his motive.

I'll leave that one up to you, dear reader. Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, on the other hand, refused to comment on the matter: "I won't be commenting on individual statements or positions that leadership candidates take.

"That's up for them to explain," he continued. "Ultimately the members of our party will decide when they vote in a leadership race."
