Winnipeg Free Press journalist Niigaan Sinclair said that anti-government protesters needed to face the consequences of their actions, and that more needed to be done beyond freezing the bank accounts of those involved. The comments were made during an interview with CPAC.

"I hope that whoever harasses Jagmeet Singh and any other political leader from whatever colour, whatever political party, is rightfully held to charges and rightfully taken to court and held accountable.
"It's not just enough to freeze bank accounts. We have to have some sort of measure of law in this country that is respectable to promote healthy dialogue," he said.
The comments come after New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh was heckled and harassed by protesters while leaving an event in Peterborough, Ontario last week.
No one has been charged in the incident, and the RCMP say they are "following up" on the incident.

The freezing of protesters' bank accounts is a new measure that dates back to the end days of the February Freedom Convoy protests that took place in Ottawa. It has not been used outside of those circumstances as of yet.
On February 25, it was estimated by the Department of Finance that as many as 210 accounts containing $7.8 million were affected by the freeze during the convoy.
The decision to freeze bank accounts was announced during the same press conference where the Emergencies Act was announced to have been invoked. On February 14, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said that the freezing of accounts would happen only to those who participated in blockades.
The department of finance would later confirm that those who donated to the convoy after February 14 would also be subjected to having their accounts frozen.
According to True North, the Winnipeg Free Press was one of many that received taxpayer funding from the Trudeau Liberals.
