Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Monday called for Democrats to "flood" the state of Texas before the next election so lawmakers in the state undertaking redistricting efforts "go running." Specifically, she wants racists to flee to Arkansas.

Referencing the redistricting effort in Texas, Crockett said, "it is gonna be so important, no matter what happens, that we get as many of you as possible to flood our state. Like, when it’s election time, I want them to be so mad that they did all of this because we have people coming from the entire country to Texas to make sure that this little scheme that they tried to pull, where they were just gonna steal and diminish the voices of black and brown people."

"I want us to be so loud that they actually go running and trying to figure out—what’s that little racist town they all hiding in… Arkansas, I think they all ran to Arkansas—that’s where they need to run off to. That’s how I want them to feel after this election. So no matter what happens, I need y’all to stay in this fight, because literally the war is just starting."

Crockett was referencing a development in Arkansas' Ozark Mountains where those who wish to live there must undergo ancestral screening as well as background checks. "Seeing someone who doesn’t present as white might lead us to, among other things, not admit that person," co-founder Eric Orwoll said. The community is under investigation by the Arkansas attorney general's office.

Texas is undergoing a redistricting effort that could see five additional GOP-held seats in the US House. In an effort to block the vote, Texas Democrats fled the state to Democratic ones across the country for weeks, returning to their duties on Monday. Those lawmakers who fled will have to pay hundreds of dollars in fines for breaking quorum, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has vowed to remove those lawmakers from their posts.

Other Democrat lawmakers have criticized Texas' efforts, including Texas state Rep Jolanda Jones, who apologized after likening the redistricting in the state to the Holocaust. Former President Barack Obama called the redistricting a "power grab that undermines our democracy," while Illinois Governor JB Pritzker claimed that Texas was "cheating" by undertaking mid-decade redistricting because the Republican Party knows "that they’re headed toward a loss of the Congress in 2026."
