Premier Jason Kenney is revealing details on Alberta's strategy to relaunch the economy Thursday, as projections show that the province is seeing success in its fight against coronavirus, according to CTV News.
At 3:30 Kenney will provide the details during the update held by the province’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw.
"We'll announce measures to move toward more economic and social activity," Kenney said on Tuesday. "It has to be done in a measured way. To quote [Saskatchewan] Premier Moe, 'It's going to be more like a dimmer switch than an on-off switch.'"
He also shared modelling projections that showed positive results of the provinces efforts to fight the virus on Tuesday
“The number of Albertans hospitalized and admitted to intensive care is well below what modelling originally projected,” he said.
The new projections estimate that there will be 596 hospitalized patients at the peak, which is a drop from the 818 projected at the beginning of the month. The new projections also suggest that 190 people will require critical care at the peak of the virus.
There have been 209 people hospitalized so far in Alberta, with 49 admitted to ICUs.
Kenny noted that the hospitalizations and ICU admissions will be closely monitored by the government, which is also paying close attention to the growth rate of coronavirus cases in order to improve the relaunch strategy.
Alberta confirmed 315 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths on Wednesday. This brings the total number of cases to 5,165 and the death count to 87.
