Stein says both Democrats and Republicans are a "danger to democracy."
Dr. Stein, who is a progressive, is running on a platform that includes tackling climate change through a Green New Deal, abolishing student debt, and creating an "economic bill of rights" that grants Americans access to housing, healthcare, and a living wage at the cost of taxpayers, according to her campaign website.
In the presidential launch video, Dr. Stein says both Democrats and Republicans are a "danger to democracy" and that Americans need a party that will "serve the people."
"People are tired of being thrown under the bus by wealthy elites and their bought politicians. The political system is broken. The two Wall Street parties are bought and paid for. Over 60 percent of us now say the bipartisan establishments failed us and we need a party that serves the people," Stein says.
"We'll put solutions to the crises we face: crushing inequality, endless war, and climate collapse," she says. "The ruling parties that got us into this mess aren't getting us out. Both parties are a danger to our democracy. Expanding censorship, criminalizing protest, throwing competitors off the ballot, suppressing debates, and rigging their primaries."
"Change won't come from the ruling elites, it comes from we the people. And when we stand together we can create living wage jobs for all Americans. We can guarantee an economic bill of rights with the right to a job, to healthcare, to housing, to food, education, and more," she asserts. "We can abolish student debt, medical debt. We can create a Green New Deal with millions of jobs to fight climate collapse and protect Mother Earth...We can end the endless wars and rampant militarism and use diplomacy and international law instead to end violence, occupation, and apartheid."
Dr. Jill Stein was born in Chicago and raised in Highland Park, Illinois. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1973, and from Harvard Medical School in 1979, according to her website. She is a self-described climate justice warrior and environmentalist who has helped lead initiatives to fight "environmental racism, injustice, and pollution."
She was a principal organizer for the Global Climate Convergence for People, Planet, and Peace over Profit.
Dr. Stein has launched multiple failed presidential bids as the Green Party candidate in 2012 and 2016. She also ran for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002 and 2010.
