On Friday morning, Rep. Jim Jordan held a press conference wherein he urged voters to elect him as Speaker so he and his colleagues can get to work and "help the American people."

In the nearly three weeks since Matt Gaetz's motion to oust Kevin McCarthy was passed, members of the House of Representatives have failed to find a replacement. Jordan, who performed best among Republicans in the first two rounds of voting, is still short of a majority, and as the process moves forward, he has continued to try and drum up support.

Citing the crisis at the southern border and in the economy, Jordan said he felt as though the American people were "starting to doubt and wonder about their government and about where our nation is headed."

"I think the American people are thirsty for change, I think they are hungry for leadership, and frankly they know the White House can't provide it, they know the Senate won't lead, and they are looking for House Republicans to step up and lead and make changes on these important issues."

Jordan went on to profess his unwavering support for Israel, and explained that unless the House gets rolling again, the US' greatest ally won't receive the funds it needs.

"We need to get to work for the American people," he added. "We need to do what we said we were gonna do ... and we can't do that if the House isn't open."

"The quickest way to get all this working is to get a Speaker elected, and I hope that's what we can do today," he concluded.

Following his speech, reporters pressed Jordan on the fact that he has failed to attain the support of the entire Republican Party. He brushed off concerns, and said he believed it could happen.

Jordan received 200 votes in the first round, and dropped by one in the second. The third round of voting is imminent.
