"This would be a perfect platform to expose my Brothers team to [your] protocol."
Uncovered emails reveal that President Joe Biden's younger brother James used his name while he was the vice president to gain influence in the now-bankrupt Americore hospital chain.
According to POLITICO, former Americore executives said James would speak about plans to give the then-vice president equity into the company, place him on the board, and even promote the company during a presidential run.
During the same time, Joe Biden had made healthcare, specifically fighting cancer, one of his top priorities as the vice president. In one of the emails obtained by the outlet, James told the CEO of a company in the Tampa area that controlled licensing rights to an experimental cancer treatment, "This would be a perfect platform to expose my Brothers team to [your] protocol."
“Could provide a great opportunity for some real exposure," he added.
Americore was riddled with financial issues, which led to standards of care getting worse, until one patient died in 2018 of cardiac arrest due to substandard care, the outlet reports.
Currently, the Justice Department is investigating Americore for allegedly conspiring to defraud the Medicare system to the tune of $100 million after it found one of their hospitals in Pennsylvania paid kickbacks after it billed the government for lab tests they sent to third-party labs.
One of the former executives said, "I was sold that Americore was going to be the salvation of rural hospitals." He noted, "The whole thing was a scam, and it didn’t take that long to figure it out.”
In November, the House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer signed a subpoena for James Biden to appear as part of their impeachment inquiry on the president.
In October, the committee uncovered that then-Vice President Biden had sent or received 29,000 emails with his government email address to accounts associates of his son Hunter and James.
James' depostion with the committee is set to be around Feb. 21.
