President-elect Donald Trump has backed Jimmy Patronis in order to fill Matt Gaetz's seat in Congress if Patronis decides to run for the office.

Trump posted on Truth Social as a special election is set to take place to fill Gaetz's seat: "Jimmy Patronis, Chief Financial Officer for the Great State of Florida, has done a tremendous job as CFO, where he also serves as the State’s Fire Marshall, and as an important member of the Florida Cabinet. I hear that Jimmy is now considering launching a Campaign for Congress in Florida's 1st Congressional District!"

"A fourth generation Floridian from the beautiful Panhandle, and owner of an iconic seafood restaurant, Jimmy has been a wonderful friend to me, and to MAGA. As your next Congressman, Jimmy would work tirelessly alongside of me to Grow our Economy, Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Incredible Military/Vets, Restore American Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," Trump added. "Should he decide to enter this Race, Jimmy Patronis has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JIMMY, RUN!"

After Trump initially nominated Gaetz to become US attorney general, he immediately resigned from his seat in Congress. After push back from allegations over sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old girl leaked from a House Committee Ethics report, Gaetz withdrew his name as a nominee. However, the allegations did not lead to charges when they were investigated by the DOJ.

Due to his resignation, Gaetz announced he would not be joining the 119th Congress, which has set a special election for his seat in motion. Patronis has not announced officially that he will run, but the backing from Trump may make his potential bid more likely.

Last week, Patronis posted on X, "I am strongly considering running for Florida Congressional District 1. We’ve got an historic opportunity to fight the swamp, end lawfare and return power back into the hands of Americans." Patronis is the chief financial officer of Florida and serves in the state's cabinet. He has also served as representative in the Florida state legislature.
