"Losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process. But the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency starts now."
An email from Kamala Harris’s campaign has confirmed that Harris called former President Donald Trump to concede the 2024 presidential race, telling staffers that "losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process."
The email, sent by Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, was addressed to campaign staff and outlined the vice president’s call with Trump. In the call, Harris reportedly assured Trump that she would "work with President Biden to ensure a peaceful transfer of power."
"You stared down unprecedented headwinds and obstacles that were largely out of our control," the message to staff read. "We knew this would be a margin of error race, and it was. And, your work mattered: the whole country moved to the right, but compared to the rest of the country, the battleground states saw the least amount of movement in his direction. It was closest in the places we competed. That speaks to both the work you did, and the scale of the challenge we ultimately couldn't surmount."
The email also acknowledged the pain of defeat but emphasized the continued mission of “protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency.”
“Losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process. But the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency starts now,” the email read, according to Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich.
Harris is scheduled to address the nation later today at Howard University. Following the speech, she and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will host a call with campaign staff to commend their efforts throughout the campaign.
