On Wednesday, Kamala Harris delivered remarks at a reception in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month held at the White House's Rose Garden.

During her speech, the vice president touted America's diversity, and, in a jab at those who criticize the Biden administration's take on the issue of equity and inclusion, gleefully claimed, "yes I did just did do DEI."

"In this moment, extremists attempt to demonize and target immigrants with some of the most vile and hateful language," Harris said, "but we here know that, in America, our diversity is our strength."

"In unity, there is power," she continued, "and the story of America, the story of our nation has always included the story of immigrants. So, let us today celebrate America's diversity and our collective commitment to inclusion and the importance of equity."

"Yes, I just did do DEI," the vice president added, cackling as the audience applauded.

Harris has been a staunch supporter of DEI initiatives since assuming her role alongside President Joe Biden.

In September, during an event at Hampton University, she advocated for a system in which everyone would achieve "equitable outcomes," and attempted to reframe DEI as a good thing in the face of mounting criticism.

"So-called extreme leaders are suggesting it’s a bad thing to care about and pay attention to inequities, to say DEI is a bad thing, when, in fact, if we want fair outcomes, we must understand what are disparities and then accommodate and adjust for those disparities if we want equal outcomes," she argued.

"If you don’t start on the same base," she continued, "everybody can have an equal amount, [but] you still are not going to end up on the same base, right? If we want equal outcomes, we need to take into account not everybody starts out on the same base, and we have to make adjustments."

Shortly before the 2020 election, she released a video explaining the difference between equality and equity, and expressed her preference for the latter.
