Internal documents obtained by Racket and The Disinformation Chronicle from the Center for Countering Hate have revealed plans from the group to "kill Musk’s Twitter."

The center was founded by British political operative Morgan McSweeny, who is now advising the Kamala Harris campaign. McSweeny also founded Labour Together, a think tank linked to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour Party. Politico in August called the Labour Party the "unofficial sister party" of the US Democrats, and a Labour Party strategist has joined the Harris Campaign.

The internal documents revealed multiple meeting agendas from across 2024 in which "Kill Musk’s Twitter" was listed as the first item in "Annual Priorities." These agendas were from January, March, and October 2024.

One agenda from May also stated "US policy engagement: set up meetings with Klobuchar’s team to seek quote/press release endorsement." Racket, journalist Matt Taibbi’s Substack, noted that Senator Amy Klobuchar has introduced multiple bills related to regulating online "misinformation."

Taibbi called into question how the focus on killing Musk’s platform could affect the center’s tax-exempt status, which could be removed if "a substantial part of its activities is attempting to influence legislation." Also listed on the agenda notes for annual priorities is "Trigger EU and UK regulatory action."

One CCDH task assignment from early 2024 read, "60 meetings on the Hill." Another refers to the since-dismissed Elon Musk lawsuit against CCDH accusing the center of manipulating data to make it appear as though hate speech was proliferating on X, "Meeting with 16 congressional offices over the next two weeks to give updates on the Elon lawsuit."

Meetings were also held with federal legislators over the "STAR framework," which would create an "independent digital regulator" that could "impose consequences for harmful content."

Over 100 staffers with the Labour Party have organized to come to the US to campaign in crucial battleground states on behalf of the Harris campaign. These states are North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

In response to the reporting, Musk wrote on X, "This is war.”
