Wichita police had to use fatal force against a man who allegedly shot his wife and killed her mother in Riverside, Kansas.

The incident occurred just after 7 am on Wednesday morning after the suspect entered the home, where he was not welcome. Police were called and arrived on the scene on North Faulkner Street only moments later, by 7:05 am.

According to local ABC outlet KAKE, the suspect had been served with a restraining order on Tuesday night on behalf of his wife.

The home belonged to the suspect's mother-in-law. The couple's two young children were also in the home at the time of the incident, as well as the suspect's brother-in-law.

A SWAT team and police negotiators arrived and were able to convince the suspect to let his children go free.

Wichita police chief Gordon Ramsay said that "As the two children were being let outside the home, there was an altercation between him and the wife outside the back door. An officer fired one time and the male is dead."

Ramsay iterated further that "the man was armed outside."

The suspect's mother-in-law was found dead at the scene, and his wife is being treated for her injuries in a nearby hospital.
