The audio captured officers being requested to respond Code 3, signaling an emergency response.
The recordings were made public on Friday afternoon by the Oversight Project after a Freedom of Information Act request. According to RedState, the recordings consist of three clips: two approximately four-minute-long clips from the general channel, where LVMPD coordinated additional units to shut down traffic and secure routes, and a third, 43-minute-long clip from the event channel used by officials involved in the detail.
The audio captured officers being requested to respond Code 3, signaling an emergency response. At one point, an official is heard asking if anyone was on the radio because “they’re on a hold for something regarding the president.” Officers were then instructed to allow traffic through intersections while waiting for further instructions.
After some time, they were informed, “For everyone on the radio, right now POTUS is 421. He’s being seen, so we’re just kinda waiting to see how this is shaping out. So, for everybody’s knowledge, he’s 421 right now; we’re just trying to figure out what’s going on and we’re gonna go from there."
Additionally, police were told to “meet at the Valley Hospital ER parking lot" amid the incident, per audio obtained by the Daily Beast. Following this, there was coordination among the police detail to secure a route for movement. However, Biden was never admitted to the hospital, and instead boarded Air Force One where he was taken back to Delaware.
In LVMPD code, 421 indicates a sick or injured person. While in Nevada, Biden canceled several upcoming and future events abruptly and returned to to Delaware. His team later stated that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19. By that Sunday, Biden announced in a post on X that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
