The Fayetteville Public Library in Arkansas is hosting a "back to school" dance for middle and high school students, where students will get to enjoy a drag show, pick out clothing from "The Transition Closet," and will be equipped with gender support systems.
"The school year is almost here, and we're sending off summer with the biggest bash under the rainbow! The equality crew of NW creates safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth to have fun being their true selves," the Fayetteville Public Library said on its website, announcing the "Back to School Bash."
The "Back to School Bash" consists of three components throughout the day: a community resource fair, a community picnic, and a dance party.
During the community resource fair from 3 to 5 p.m., community members "in support of LGBTQ+ youth" will provide students with free haircuts and clothing from "The Transition Closet," according to the library.
From 5 to 6 pm, the students are invited to gather for a free meal and live music.
The "Back to School Bash" ends with a "teens-only" dance party from 6 to 9 pm for students in grades 6 to 12. Teens will get to enjoy "a live deejay, refreshments, and the biggest rocking horse you have ever seen."
The "fun-filled" night will conclude with performances from "DJ Dribblz, drag performers, and more!" the Eventbrite invite states.
The Fayetteville Public Library did not publicly state which drag queens would be performing for the students, although earlier this year the library held an event which discussed Arkansas' reportedly long history of community events featuring drag queens.
