Alleged Lindsay Clancy copycat in Illinois deemed 'too dangerous' for release

The Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son has been ordered to remain in custody after being deemed “too dangerous” for release.

Corie Walsh, 40, faces three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of her son, Barrett Walsh. A Will County judge denied Walsh’s request for pretrial release during a detention hearing, finding that she posed a threat to her husband and remaining children, according to Fox News.

Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak said there were “compelling reasons for detainment” of Walsh, who allegedly threatened to harm her husband and child after her arrest. Prosecutors allege that Walsh had intended to poison her husband.

The defense has argued that Walsh was experiencing a severe psychotic episode at the time of Barrett’s death. Her attorneys have also sought psychiatric treatment for her while she remains in custody. The judge ordered that Walsh receive psychiatric medication after her attorneys told the court that she had gone days without treatment.

Walsh’s 2-year-old son was found hanging from a basement rafter after Walsh’s other children came home from school. The children sought help from a neighbor, who attempted CPR on the toddler. Barrett was pronounced dead at a local hospital, and Corie Walsh was found fully clothed in a bathtub with bloody water, with injuries to her thighs and wrists.

Walsh allegedly believed her toddler was the “devil” and “anti-Christ’ when she carried out the killing.

Walsh has been accused of being a copycat of the Lindsay Clancy case. However, her attorney tried to dismiss any links between the two.

"They are not correlated at all. It's just accidental," said attorney Andrea Lyon. She also said that it was "baseless and cruel" to suggest that Walsh was a copycat.

However, court documents showed Walsh had “recently become very invested” in the Clancy trial. She also had been “actively discussing the [Clancy] case via group text message with her friends up until 12:30 PM on September 1, 2026, three and a half hours before the scene was discovered."
