Footage has emerged that shows an NYPD captain being assaulted by looters which led to two arrests on Tuesday night in the Financial District outside of a Zara location.

The footage depicts the police official being shoved to the ground as two other officers in riot gear come to his aid at the corner of Fulton Street and Broadway at 9:15 p.m. —which was a full hour after the curfew had went into effect, according to the New York Post.

The officer in the white shirt swings a helmet that was knocked away in the dispute toward a man wearing a backpack, drops his helmet, punches the man, and then grapples with him during the fight.

Another officer proceeds to cuff the man's hands behind his back as he lies down on the street.

The two men, Juan Garcia, 21, and Fernando Lopez, 18, both of 60-61 Myrtle Avenue, Queens, apparently exited the store through a shattered window after stealing merchandise, according to police.

The officer who arrested them said he witnessed the suspects throwing the captain to the ground in an attempt to escape arrest. The officer suffered a minor injury on the chin.

The two men were charged with assault, burglary, and resisting arrest. Lopez was additionally charged with criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar's tools.

The two men's relationship to one another was unclear.

The violence broke out as the curfew in the city had been moved up to 8 p.m., with non-essential traffic banned in Manhattan south of 96th Street in the wake of the increased violence and rioting sparked over George Floyd's killing.
