MAMDANI'S NYC: Gunman kills man, injures elderly bystander in Brooklyn laundromat shooting

A gunman shot and killed a man and injured a 68-year-old bystander in a Monday morning shooting that took place at a Brooklyn laundromat. The man had been washing clothes with his wife when the gunman entered the building and fired.

Sufyan Alahmadi, manager of the Utica Avenue Xpress Laundromat in Flatlands, said, "he just came in, he shot, and then he just left the place in less than 10 seconds," per the New York Post. "[The killer] just took a look, and then he just grabbed the gun, and then he shot him."

Law enforcement sources told the outlet that the 41-year-old man had been the target of the shooting. He was shot multiple times around 8 am and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The elderly bystander was shot in the foot and was hospitalized in stable condition.

The deceased victim reportedly had a criminal record, with sources telling the outlet that the shooting may have been gang-related. The suspect was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black mask. 

Alahmadi, who hadn’t been at work at the time of the shooting, said surveillance footage showed the gunman hiding his weapon before entering the building, pulling it out, and opening fire. 

Witness Philip Denaud told ABC 7, "We go to the floor and went into the bathroom and locked the door, I was scared the guy was going to come to the door and start shooting." 

Another witness said that there had been around 15 people inside the business at the time. "I stepped out to get coffee. When I came back, I saw the victim on the floor bleeding out," the witness said.
