Duwaji disparaged the United States in a 2015 Tumblr repost in which American troops were slammed as “not brave" and accused of “mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians."
According to a Washington Free Beacon review of her inactive X and Tumblr accounts, Duwaji, the wife of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, shared and reposted content as a teen and young adult that glorified members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a US-designated terrorist organization.
In one of the posts, Duwaji uploaded a 2017 photo of infamous plane hijacker Leila Khaled, a PFLP operative who took part in two airline hijackings in 1969 and 1970, earning the dubious honor of the first woman to hijack an airplane. Alongside the image, Duwaji echoed one of Khaled’s chilling statements: “If it does good for my cause, I’d be happy to accept death.”
The report found that Duwaji also praised other PFLP figures, including Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, a militant involved in attacks against Israelis. In a 2015 repost marking International Women’s Day, Duwaji highlighted Ghazaleh as a pioneering “resistance” fighter. She also shared imagery tied to the First Intifada, an uprising marked by deadly violence that helped fuel the rise of Hamas, and circulated content hailing “freedom fighters of Palestine.”
Duwaji also disparaged the United States in a 2015 Tumblr repost in which American troops were slammed as “not brave” and accused of “mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians” to preserve “American hegemony.” Another post blamed “white people” for creating al Qaeda.
When Snapchat featured Tel Aviv in 2015, Duwaji reportedly amplified posts declaring the city “shouldn’t exist in the first place” and accusing Israel of genocide. Additionally, Duwaji, who isn’t Black, used the N-word in a 2013 X post when she was just 15 years old. She wrote "@_AlyaF Helllll yeah, n*gga. Super duper genius* excuse you."
Earlier this month, reports revealed that Duwaji had liked Instagram posts celebrating Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel, including one that dismissed reports of sexual violence against Israeli victims as a “mass rape hoax.” She has also faced criticism for contributing artwork to an essay by author Susan Abulhawa, who has compared Israelis and Jews to cockroaches and vampires.
Meanwhile, New York's First Couple was also under fire this month after hosting Hamas-supporting activist Mahmoud Khalil at Gracie Mansion. The mayor has insisted his wife holds “no formal role” in his administration and should not be judged for years-old posts.
