Man convicted of murdering a mother in front of her children escapes Pennsylvania prison, manhunt underway

Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan warned, "[Cavalcante's] depravity knows no bounds. This is a person who has nothing to lose."

Around 8:50 am on Thursday, a 34-year-old convicted murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, escaped from the Chester County Prison outside of Philidelphia in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania, and is still on the loose as of Friday.

In a press conference, Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan warned, "[Cavalcante's] depravity knows no bounds. This is a person who has nothing to lose."

"I don't know what he is capable of doing," she continued. "If he's already engaged in murder in broad daylight in front of her two children there is no stopping him from doing something more egregious."

“He is considered an extremely dangerous," Ryan said. "If you see this defendant do not approach him... Call 911 if you have any sightings."

According to WPVI, Cavalcante was convicted of murdering his girlfriend Deborah Brandaol in April 2021. He stabbed her 38 times after he found out that she planned to disclose that he was wanted for a 2017 murder in his native country of Brazil. A jury took 15 minutes to convict him and he was sentenced to life in prison on August 22.

Ryan described Cavalcante as five feet tall, 120 lbs, and has long black curly hair, and brown eyes. He is originally from Brazil and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and some English. "He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, grey shorts, and white sneakers," she added.

Acting prison warden Howard Holland said they are investigating how Cavalcante was able to escape. "Once we knew we had an issue with an inmate not being there, we immediately followed our protocols, locked down the prison, did what we call a special count to confirm there was only one person missing," he said.

Authorities noted that he has family in the area who helped him flee after he murdered his ex-girlfriend, and they have been in contact with them to warn him they will be prosecuted if they help him again.

Police are offering $10,000 for information that leads to Cavalcante's capture.
