A confrontation involving a stolen vehicle left one man dead, and three police officers injured in the small Denver suburb of Englewood. .
According to the Englewood Police Department, at 10:19 a.m. on May 18, officers arrived at an apartment complex at 1401 E. Girard Place and "contacted an occupied stolen vehicle."
Police state that after an unsuccessful attempt to initiate dialogue with the 22-year-old male suspect, the suspect "struck and drug three Police Officers."
The driver of the vehicle, whose name has not yet been released, was subsequently shot by police. He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The three officers hit by the suspect's vehicle, also not yet named, were taken to hospital to be treated.
The Department added that "a female passenger inside the car, was taken into custody."
As the Denver Post reports, the case is currently under investigation by the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team. Their job is to "assist in the investigation of incidents where any peace officer ... uses, or may have used, or is the subject of the use of deadly force or potentially deadly force" with the goal of determining whether the officer broke the law in the process.
According to Post, body cam footage from the incident "will not be released until all officers involved have been interviewed."
