An Afghan national on the FBI’s terror watchlist was arrested by Border Patrol agents on Wednesday. The man entered the country illegally with a group of migrants near Otay Mesa, California and was taken to a processing station.
According to Fox News, the agents scanned his fingerprints and he came up as a match in the Terrorist Screening Database. The arrest came in conjunction with a massive surge in migrants crossing into the country with Title 42 set to expire on Thursday.
"Biden’s open borders aren’t just a gateway to five million illegals, record human and child trafficking and the deadliest drug crisis in our history," said Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA). "Biden’s reckless policy is also an open invitation to even the most wanted terrorists in the world to come to America. They know they’ll never have to leave. The nation knows what’s going on and this president has only begun to be held accountable for what he has done."
Title 42 is a Trump-era policy that allowed the Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security (HHS) to turn away illegal immigrants over health concerns. The policy was set to expire last May but a federal court ordered it to stay in place and it was eventually extended through this May. President Biden said in December that ending the policy was overdue."
The Biden admin has seen a record-breaking number of illegal immigrants cross the border. In 2022, over 2.3 million people were reported to have come into the US illegally. Last month was the highest monthly total in DHS History.
The border patrol has also seen record numbers of drugs, including fentanyl, cross the border.
