Man stabbed in the face in unprovoked attack inside Brooklyn subway station, suspect at large: police

On Sunday evening, a 26-year-old man was stabbed in the face while attempting to board a train at a Brooklyn subway station. His attacker remains on the loose.

Police received a 911 call just before 6 pm on Sunday and responded to the Fulton Street and Rockaway Avenue station, where the victim, who had been getting onto a southbound C train, was stabbed in the face, per the New York Post. 

The man was taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, and is in stable condition. The suspect fled the station and remains on the run. Police said an investigation is still ongoing.

Police said that the attacker did not speak to the victim before the unprovoked attack, and that the two did not know each other, per AMNY. The suspect is described as a heavyset man wearing a dark-colored sweater. The suspect fled on the C train. 

Multiple people have been stabbed across the subway system in New York City in recent weeks. On September 18, a 43-year-old woman was stabbed by another woman in an unprovoked attack inside the Intervale Avenue subway station in the Bronx. The woman is expected to recover from her injuries. 

On September 7, a 46-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds at the Fordham Road Subway station in the Bronx. Police responded to the scene to find the man with injuries to his chest, neck, and hand. It is unclear if the stabbing occurred on the train or on the platform.

So far in 2026, transit crimes in the city remain on par with numbers seen during the same time period in 2025. However, in the week ending on September 13, there was a 31 percent spike compared to 2025.
