The multinational hospitality group has now sued the franchise for breach of contract.
Marriott International has had enough after one of its New York City properties has agreed to be used as a migrant shelter. The multinational hospitality group has now sued the franchise for breach of contract. Marriott says Pride Hotel LLC, has contravened its franchisee agreement to operate a hotel in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens as a dual-branded Aloft and Element hotel, Fox Business reports.
The hotel chain says the hotel management decided there was more money to be made by signing a "lucrative" contract with the City of New York to take in illegal immigrants. Marriott says Pride Hotel did not inform them of their decision to house migrants and after doing so make no effort to remove the company branding from the hotel.
This caused “significant harm” to the Marriott brand, the complaint insists and the hotel chain is demanding more than $2.6 million in compensation.
There is significant money to be made – at taxpayer expense – in converting hotels to migrant shelters. The business has brought in more than a billion dollars from the city, with hotels getting $156 a night per migrant-occupied room. Deluxe rooms cost $300 a night, the New York Post noted.
The border crisis that has seen at least 25 million illegals enter the US has prompted NYC to spend $4.88 billion on food, health care, legal aid and housing. Almost half of that has gone to housing illegals in hotels and shelters, with hotels accounting for 80 percent of that cost.
Since he Biden-Harris border crisis began immediately following President Joe Biden’s inauguration, New York City, like many large urban centers in the US, has provided illegals with a variety of taxpayer-provided largesse. NYC is supplying free airline tickets to migrants to fly anywhere in the US. The city turned a high school over to illegal immigrants and has offered prepaid debit cards to illegals as well.
