Hancock's attorney argued that his client intended to strike the camera rather than the person operating it.
The incident occurred on June 27 near 10th Avenue and Denny Way, adjacent to Cal Anderson Park, where Seattle's PrideFest celebrations were taking place.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded after receiving reports that a man armed with a baseball bat had confronted two people who were filming the event. Police said video of the incident showed the suspect swinging the bat and nearly striking one of the victims in the head.
Although no injuries were reported, police said the suspect attempted to flee after the confrontation. Officers located him a short distance away and took him into custody.
Hancock was booked on suspicion of assault and obstruction.
During his first court appearance on Monday, Hancock's attorney argued that his client intended to strike the camera rather than the person operating it, according to KOMO News. Despite that argument, the judge found probable cause for assault and obstruction and ordered Hancock held on $35,000 bail.
Video circulating on social media appears to show the masked suspect running toward the videographers before forcefully swinging the bat in their direction, then running off. Other videos show police pursuing and apprehending the suspect.
