Toronto Mayor John Tory gave a brief speech saying how he would charge and/or fine everybody who violates the lockdown currently in effect in Toronto.

"Remarkably insulting stuff from our mayor. This isn’t how you speak to your constituents. And it sure as hell isn’t how you encourage compliance from folks who are losing everything."

This comes on the heels of an announcement by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who says that the Toronto area lockdown will be extended, and that further announcements will be forthcoming on Monday.

Responses to both the original tweet by Joe Warmington and to Alex Brown's reproduction of it were overwhelmingly and scathingly critical of the Toronto mayor's attitude toward his constituents:

"So Johnny would be charged daily? The man never stays home."

Indeed, the media is full of stories of hypocritical elected officials not obeying their own lockdown rules. Unfortunately, Mayor Tory appears to not be an exception to this.

"The old age homes are still death traps and the oligarchs are blaming it on us? They had decades to create capacity in hospitals and old age homes and now they're like, "What do we do with all these old & sick people?" Eff right off with your scapegoating of law abiding citizens."

"If only history had provided us with some kind of warning about the dangers of Progressive Governments."
