Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the knifepoint rape of a 46-year-old woman in Coney Island. One of the two arrested entered the US illegally in 2022.

24-year-old David Davon-Bonilla, from Nicaragua, allegedly grabbed the woman and threw her on the ground at around 9 pm Sunday, holding a knife to her throat, according to the New York Post. 37-year-old Leovando Moreno, his alleged accomplice from Mexico, is accused of hitting the woman’s boyfriend with a pipe when he attempted to step in and stop the attack, sources told the outlet.

The attack took place outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, at Surf Avenue and 16th Street. Davon-Bonilla allegedly approached the woman and demanded sex before the attack.

Davon-Bonilla has been charged with first-degree rape, second-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon. Moreno has been charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Davon-Bonilla reportedly lived previously at a Third Avenue La Quinta Hotel that had been converted into a shelter for illegal immigrants. Sources told the outlet that he entered the US illegally in December 2022 through Texas. He pleaded guilty in 2023 to sexually assaulting a 34-year-old woman at the La Quinta. The woman was reportedly raped and sodomized inside the hotel in April 2023, but Davon-Bonilla remained in the country. It is currently unclear when Moreno entered the country.

The victim of the Sunday attack is reportedly homeless and from out of state, currently living in an encampment under Coney Island’s boardwalk near where the attack occurred.
