Amid Senator Elissa Slotkin calling for prosecutions to scare young conservatives from working for the Trump administration, the white House is reportedly weighing whether to issue mass pardons to junior staffers.

Two sources familiar with the conversations told the Washington Sun that White House attorneys are weighing the move. One of the sources said that a pardon for all junior admin personnel is being viewed as unlikely but added that the president could issue blanket pardons for those involved in policy areas such as trade, war, or deportations.

The sources said that several conservative organizations such as the Heritage Foundation and American Movement have urged the White House to prepare pardons or prepare legal funding needed to defend junior staffers from criminal and congressional probes or lawsuits.

The sources said the efforts to secure pardons after comments from Slotkin earlier in the month in footage captured by The Chicago Thinker. She said, “I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? That sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message sent.”

Mike Davis, the president of the Article III Project, has said that he plans to press the White House for action, and told the Sun, “After listening to Elissa Slotkin threatening to go after young people who joined the Trump administration, President Trump should issue very broad preemptive pardons for anyone who worked for him or in his orbit.”
