"Mike Johnson has cancelled his AmFest appearance this weekend."
Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec reported that Johnson would not be speaking at the event as previously planned, "Mike Johnson has cancelled his AmFest appearance this weekend."
A host of speakers are slated to appear at the annual event aimed at college-aged conservatives. Other confirmed speakers for the event include President-elect Donald Trump, Posobiec, TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, as well as many other Republican and conservative commentators and political figures.
On Wednesday, after Johnson unveiled the spending package Tuesday evening, Musk took to X to voice his concern over the package and wrote, "This bill should not pass," and then added in a follow-up post about the 1,500+ page bill, "Ever seen a bigger piece of pork?"
Johnson responded to Musk and the backlash, going on Fox to say, "I don't like it either," and explained that Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy had expressed that they understood the "impossible position" Johnson was in for the bill.
After more pushback from Musk and pressure on Republicans, Trump announced that he was "totally against" the CR spending bill. It was later reported that Johnson and his leadership team were mulling over a "plan B" for government spending that would drop various portions of the package.
As some have brought Johnson's role as Speaker of the House into question, Fox News reported that Trump said Johnson will "easily" keep his role as Speaker of the House if he "acts decisively, and tough, and gets rid of all of the traps being set by the Democrats, which will economically and, in other ways, destroy our country."
