"This morning, our deputies issued dispersal orders at an unlawful assembly outside the Whipple Building."
There were 54 people that were arrested in total, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said in statement posted to social media, "This morning, our deputies issued dispersal orders at an unlawful assembly outside the Whipple Building after individuals blocked roadways, blocked access to local businesses, dumped glass into the street, and threw rocks, ice chunks and water bottles at law enforcement creating a serious public safety hazard. Arrests are being made."
"Freedom of speech and peaceful assembly is a right," the sheriff's office added. "Endangering the public is not. Unlawful activity including blocking roads, intentionally creating hazards and assaultive behavior will not be tolerated." 38 people were cited and released, there were at least 15 others arrested, per Fox News.
The unrest takes place as there has been a wave of anti-ICE unrest in places such as Minnesota and as Democrats in Washington have been blocking funding for DHS, even as the White House has warned of terror attacks in response to the Trump administration's attack in Iran that took place over the weekend.
The incident was the culmination of a weeklong campaign that the agitators have dubbed the "Bring the Heat, Melt the ICE" action. The deaths of Alex Pretti as well as Renee Good have been a point of contention for the anti-ICE agitators, who have claimed that both were murdered by ICE and Border Patrol agents.
Good was driving her car into an ICE agent when the agent opened fire, killing Good. In the instance of Pretti, he was armed as Border Patrol agents wrestled him to the ground, but appeared to have been disarmed a fraction of a second before he was shot by Border Patrol.
