Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, is expected to break from tradition of always supporting the pro-Trump caucus and publicly rebuke members of the Senate.

A dozen or so senators and more than 140 representatives have manifested that they plan to do their best to block election certifications on Wednesday, but McConnell appears to not be on board.

According to Fox News, McConnell plans to be among the first to speak at the beginning of the process, objecting to the challenges of his colleagues and supporting the election certification process.

Several Republicans have claimed that McConnell has approached them privately, trying to dissuade them from holding up the electoral process, but the Majority Leader has yet to pronounce publicly on the issue, but that is set to change very shortly.

President Donald Trump himself weighed in on the issue:

"I hope the Democrats, and even more importantly, the weak and ineffective RINO section of the Republican Party, are looking at the thousands of people pouring into D.C. They won’t stand for a landslide election victory to be stolen. @senatemajldr@JohnCornyn@SenJohnThune," tweeted Trump.

This type of situation is sometimes seen as unique, but it's actually very typical. The Democratic caucus has engaged in similar tactics three times in the past decade. In fact, every time a Republican president was about to be certified, they did whatever they good to stop it.
