"There are some Americans that might object to that. And so apparently this shooting has happened," Dilanian said.
"Of course, you know, there's so much controversy happening in the United States right now with ICE, who are also wearing uniforms and wearing masks," Dilanian said. "And so there's ... people walking around with uniforms in an American city. There are some Americans that might object to that. And so apparently this shooting has happened," Dilanian said on the air.
On Wednesday, two National Guard troops were shot on the streets of DC in what authorities have said was a targeted attack. The suspect in the shooting, identified as 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was taken into custody. Trump has called the shooting an "act of terror." Clips of Dilanian's comments were promptly posted to social media where they went viral, and he was met with swift backlash.
The White House said in response, "Two heroes were just shot protecting our nation’s capital — and this is your takeaway? Democrats have relentlessly demonized these Patriots, calling them 'illegal' and even suggesting THEY might start shooting Americans. Get help. You are beyond sick."
TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said, "MS NOW is about to have to rebrand again. This is truly disgusting."
"Time to look for Ken Dilanian's misplaced soul and reunite them before he starts outlining how understandable it is to shoot National Guardsmen in the head because the left wants foreign voters flooding our streets and towns with need, crime and hatred," one user said.
Another said, "Hopefully Ken Dilanian just ended his career. Blaming of the very soldiers who lost their lives."
