MSNBC host says she hopes 13-year-old with terminal cancer who wants to be a cop, honored by Trump doesn't kill himself

"I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump's supporters and if he does, I hope he isn't one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”

MSNBC hosts Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow were slammed for ghoulish behavior on Tuesday night after denigrating a 13-year-old boy battling cancer, and even discussed the possibility of him committing suicide after President Donald Trump praised the child’s fortitude and dreams of becoming a police officer during his address to Congress.

Trump singled out DJ daniel, who has been battling cancer since he was diagnosed in 2018 at the age of six, and was told he would likely only live another five months. The boy was sworn in as an honorary police officer many times to pursue his dream of joining law enforcement.

During the address, Trump revealed that DJ would be officially sworn in as an honorary Secret Service agent. “He has always dreamed of becoming a police officer,” Trump said. “But in 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”

"And tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all," Trump said. "I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States."

Following the tear-jerking moment, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Nicole Wallace went negative on the 13-year-old.

Wallace said, “I hope he's alive for another 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop, he knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer that crystallizes for you,” but then referencing the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 said, “I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump's supporters and if he does, I hope he isn't one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”

She added her hopes that daniel wouldn’t have to “testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then live to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”

Maddow, appearing to be on the verge of tears, said, “For the record and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far has survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that.”

The liberal commentator continued, “This was in the midst of him praising DOGE. DOGE cuts, among other things, have cut off funding for ongoing research into pediatric cancer,” echoing the words of radical ‘Squad’ member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) who held up a whiteboard during the address that read, “You cut cancer research.”

As DJ was held up by his father and hugged FBI Director Sean Curran after receiving his badge, Republicans in the House gallery chanted “DJ.” Democrats booed and heckled througout Trump's speech. They didn't stand up for daniel, nor did they rise for the son of a fallen police officer who just got into West Point with a 4.6 GPA, or for the family of Laken Riley, the Georgia nursing student who was raped and murdered by an asylum-seeking Venezuelan man.

MSNBC has ben in turmoil over the past few months. Joy Reid's nightly show The ReidOut was canceled. Rachel Maddow's staff has been gutted. And a new network head is making sweeping changes as ratings have dropped.
