An Iraqi-born man who is a naturalized citizen in the US has been released from jail after he showed up to an elementary school in Texas with a gun and dressed in full tactical gear.

Kyle Najm Chris, also known as Muhi Mohanad Najm, showed up at Zwink Elementary School in Texas on March 10 with a gun as well as full tactical gear. He had a holstered firearm, a taser, as well as a load-bearing vest.

Najm became naturalized as a US citizen in 2022. He was arrested on Wednesday after he left the building and being ordered to leave by staff. He was arrested on one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. He has since posted the $75,000 bond in order to be released from custody, according to court records.

He was taken into custody at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday and then booked. According to the criminal complaint in the case, he was seen entering through the front office door with the military gear and the gun holstered.

When asked how he was able to get past security, he replied to staff that the front door was not latched. He refused to identify himself when asked, and then he fled to his dark blue Dodge Charger, driving away from the school.

"From the moment the individual left the front office, we were actively working with multiple law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend this individual," the school wrote in a message to parents. "Sending a public notification during that window could have jeopardized those efforts, tipped off the suspect, and delayed the arrest."

The incident takes place as there have been a number of other high-profile crimes allegedly committed by people who came to the US and became citizens but later turned to violence.

On Thursday, Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, who was born in Lebanon but came to the US, rammed a truck filled with explosives into a synagogue in Michigan. He died at the scene after getting in a gunfight with security and then shooting himself in the head.
