Rainn Wilson, the multimillionaire celebrity known for his role as Dwight Schrute in The Office, captured ridicule online after he made a post criticizing the viral and very popular 'Rich Men North of Richmond' anthem performed by country singer Oliver Anthony

"If I were writing a song about 'rich men north of richmond' I wouldnt talk about obese people on welfare, I’d sing about CEOs who make 400 times their average workers salary (up from 50 times 30 years ago) & corps that pay zero taxes & offshore tax shelters for billionaires," Wilson posted online.

This prompted a backlash from other users of X, formerly known as Twitter, including conservative commentator Ashley St. Clair, who quipped, "Perhaps your $16 million net worth is clouding this, but when people like Oliver Anthony look to their left and right for neighbors to fight back against the system with & instead see are welfare-addicted gluttons who won’t fight against a system that is drugging them physically, mentally + monetarily, you write Rich Men North of Richmond."

"It seems, being #1 on the charts, Oliver Anthony has spoken to the people he wanted to speak to, and I can guarantee he didn’t have you in mind," added St. Clair.

In a video posted to X, St. Clair said, "Rainn, if that’s how you feel, why don’t you go live in Appalachia, on the median household income there, which is near the poverty like, why don’t you do that for a week?"

"Why don’t you have Oliver Anthony tour you around the area? Why don’t you meet some of the people and tell me if that’s the biggest issue?"

American journalist Tim Pool also offered his reaction, posting online, "But poor people are wondering why they are working really hard for sickly lazy people who are supported by the ultra rich like you who vote Democrat ... Get it?"

An X user named Joey Jones made a point to say that Wilson was made into a "multimillionaire" after he acted as "a parody character of a Pennsylvania farmer turned office worker."

"You did a fantastic job exploiting a very real simple/humble upbringing as well as the rat race of middle class white collar workers," he explained. "You did such a good job making fun of their existence it made you a multimillionaire."

Wilson, who has complained about wealthy CEOs, has an estimated networth of around $16 million.
