"Wow. This is pretty crazy."
On Monday, JD Vance was sworn in as the 50th Vice President of the United States. The following day, Vance, formerly a Senator from Ohio, revealed that he has never visited the Oval Office, House Speaker Mike Johnson said. Upon entering the famed room, Vance said, "wow."
Johnson wrote, "As we gathered for our meeting at the White House yesterday, JD Vance mentioned to us that he had never before visited the Oval Office. I told him and President Trump that I HAD to capture the moment on video. Only in America can a hardworking young man from Appalachia rise from his humble circumstances to enter the Oval for first time as VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. What a country!"
Video taken by Johnson showed him following Vance and Trump to the Oval Office, and upon entering the room, Vance said, "Wow. This is pretty crazy. I’ve never been in this room. This is incredible."
During his swearing in, Vance placed his hand on a copy of the Bible that belonged to his maternal great-grandmother. He was joined by his wife, Usha, and their kids.
Vance, a US Marine Corps veteran and author of Hillbilly Elegy, ran for an Ohio US Senate seat in 2022, defeating Democrat challenger Tim Ryan and receiving endorsements from Trump, former Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In the wake of Vance being announced as Trump's VP pick, Hillbilly Elegy, a memoir that outlines Vance's hard upbringing, hit number one on the New York Times' bestsellers list.
