“I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isn’t."

Following what appears to be a career-ending injury in a game that her pro team lost, US soccer player Megan Rapinoe claimed the injury proved God didn’t exist.

On Saturday, the activist soccer player injured her Achilles tendon, possibly tearing it, while trying to make a play on defense when she went down with a non-contact injury in the sixth minute of the game as OL Reign fell to Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship.

During the post-game press conference, Rapinoe said, “I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f*cked up. It’s just f*cked up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”

The Seattle Times quoted Rapinoe as saying, “Everyone is always like, ‘Who kicked me?’ And obviously, no one was even around me, and I was pressing. That’s what it felt like. Just a huge pop and I can’t even feel where the Achilles is, but pretty sure I tore my Achilles. The worst possible outcome.”

She added, “Thank God I have a f*cking deep well of a sense of humor. It’s devastating to go out in a final so early.”

Earlier this year, Rapinoe suffered another loss as the heavily favored US women's soccer team lost in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Rapinoe was an unpopular pick for team captain with US fans. At the beginning of the World Cup, she spoke out in favor of men being allowed to play on women's sports teams, saying "I see trans women as real women."

At the time she claimed, "We as a country are trying to legislate away people's full humanity."

Rapinoe continued, "It's particularly frustrating when women's sports is weaponized," she continued. "Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women's sports? That's total bullsh*t. Show me all the trans people who are nefariously taking advantage of being trans in sports. It's just not happening."
