New Jersey School District awards $325,000 to former school teacher who received death threats after taking the blame for editing a Trump logo out of a student’s yearbook picture back in 2017.
According to Susan Parsons, Wall Township High School ordered her to make edits to the “Trump Make America Great Again” shirt demanding it be turned plain blue.
Parsons sued the school district back in 2019, saying she was scapegoated and received death threats over the controversy that made national headlines in 2017, NJ Advance Media reports.
“My life has not been the same” she said then, “and I don’t think it ever will.”
The Wall Township school board approved the $325,000 settlement with Parsons on Tuesday night, NJ.com said, citing a copy of the agreement obtained through an open records request.
According to NJ.com, the district made no admission of wrongdoing or liability. The school reissued the yearbook with the original unaltered photo.
Susan Parsons alleges she regularly complained about forced alterations, saying the “yearbook should reflect reality.”
Parsons, who voted for Trump in 2016, believes her reputation will forever be altered.
“Even though this information is coming out, not everyone is ever going to be told the truth,” Parsons said. “Most people don’t care. They’ll just remember ‘That woman, that nutcase, who did she think she was?’”
Susan Parsons will receive roughly $204,000 from the settlement. According to the agreement, the remainder will cover attorney fees.
