"I think it’s a legitimate question to say, 'Is this an episode or is this a condition?'"
After the disastrous debate performance from Joe Biden last week against Donald Trump, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has said that it is a "legitimate question" to ask if Biden has a health condition. The comments come as even many Democrats and prominent pundits have said that Biden should step aside in the race. Pelosi herself is older than Biden's 81 years, at 84-years-old.
Pelosi appeared in an interview on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell after the debate last week, where she made the comments about Biden. Although she said that she had not spoken to him since the debate, Pelosi said it was a question to ask that was on people's minds. "Now, again, I think it’s a legitimate question to say, ‘Is this an episode or is this a condition?’” she stated. During the interview, she also said that because of his age, Biden has experience doing more things in government and added that he had "a bad night."
She then alleged that it would be a question to be asked about both Biden and Trump in the race. Pelosi said that Trump was lying in the debate and then referenced when she famously tore up papers behind him during Trump's State of the Union address. Biden lied repeatedly, though she did not mention that.
"Both candidates owe whatever test you want to put them to, in terms of their mental acuity and their health," Pelosi added. Mitchell agreed with Pelosi, but then also said that Biden should be expected to deal with any falsehoods that come up in debate.
During the debate last week, Biden appeared confused and stumbled over his words at multiple points while debating Trump. He also falsely claimed to be endorsed by the Border Patrol Union. The union quickly shot down the claim online.
