The vote is the final step to make the name change take place, but it is yet to be determined what the name of the airport will be. The authority is working to incorporate and decide how Parton’s name or legacy will be used to rename the airport.
The vote was unanimous at 6 to 0. The authority said in a press release, “While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated."
“This vote represents the first step in a multifaceted process. In the coming months, we anticipate having more definitive plans to share regarding the next steps and implementation,” the authority added.
The body said that they would be sharing additional details when they become available and when plans are finalized. Parton died on August 25 after fighting a battle with cancer.
“After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” a representative said when she died. “Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.”
