NBC showed Trump for a mere four seconds over their three-and-a-half-hour-long broadcast of the game.
2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump attended Sunday night’s Steelers-Jets football game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was greeted to a chorus of "USA" chants, however, the outlet which frequently showcases Taylor Swift's appearances at games gave Trump a brief mention.
According to OutKick, NBC showed Trump for a mere four seconds over their three-and-a-half-hour-long broadcast of the game. Commentator Mike Tirico gave a brief acknowledgment of Trump’s attendance, and cameras quickly returned to the playing field.
This is a major difference from the outlet’s coverage of pop star Taylor Swift’s appearances at games. According to the outlet, NBC shows Taylor Swift an average of seven times during an NFL broadcast. These shots of Swift often last up to 30 seconds and include " fawning commentary from Tirico and Cris Collinsworth." Swift, who was in Miami for the most recent leg of her Eras Tour, did not attend the Sunday night game.
One clip captured at the Sunday night game showed fans cheering and chanting "USA" as Trump stood in a box waving back at them.
A female fan rushed the field Sunday night, halting the game, while carrying a flag that read "Trump, secure border. Kamala, open border," according to the New York Post. She received loud cheers from the crowd, and made it to the 40-yard line before being captured and escorted off the field.
The display did not make it to NBC’s broadcast.
Trump's appearance at the game came after campaigning in the Keystone State, which included working the fryer at a Pennsylvania McDonald's restaurant. Immediately following the ABC News debate in September, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, writing, "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos."
A September poll found that Swift’s endorsement led 20 percent of respondents to say they were somewhat or much less likely to vote for Harris come November. Another poll conducted in October found that 61 percent of Pennsylvanian Republicans do not approve of Swift, while just 16 percent do. Among independents in the state, 23 percent approve of her while 45 percent disapprove.
