NBC reports Biden has 'no plans' for White House briefing while CNN, MSNBC ask: 'Where is the president?'

Update: It was later announced that President Biden would address the nation at 3:45 pm.

CNN's Brianna Keilar asked White House Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer "Where is the president? Why isn't he communicating fulsomely to the American people?"

"The president has deeply engaged in all of the policy conversations and in this situation as it evolves in real time," Finer said. "We have met with president and his entire national security team daily, often multiple times a day, that's going to continue again today. The president has spoken to this issue a number of times in recent weeks, he has—"

Keilar interrupted, saying "He has not—Look, Jon, totally different story than a few weeks ago, right? I mean why isn't he out there now. Kabul fell yesterday, where is the president?"

"I mean again, Brianna, the president has spoken to this extensively and I expect that he will speak to it again soon," Finer said.

"In the coming days?" Asked Keilar, wanting specifics as to when the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces would address the American people and the world after the disastrous withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

"Should we hear something from him today?" She asked. "Do you expect that? It seems like the moment demands that."

Finer refused to give any details, saying "I'm not going to get ahead of both decision-making and any announcements on this, all I can say on this is that we expect the president again to address the American people on Afghanistan, and as soon as we have more to say about that we will."

Finer also took a turn on MSNBC to field questions as to when the American people would be hearing from President Biden. Jonathan Lemire asked Finer "When will we, when will the American people hear from President Biden as to the situation in Afghanistan?"

Finer said much the same to Lemire as he did to Keilar, saying "I expect you'll hear from the president in the coming days, I don't want to get ahead of any announcement that he may have. The president has spoken to this issue quite extensively and I know that he will have more to say."

NBC White House correspondent Monica Alba reported that "there are no plans for a White House briefing today," but that the State Department would hold one.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the White House over the weekend as to the unfolding disaster in Afghanistan as US forces withdraw from the nation were met with quiet as both the president, and the press secretary, were on vacation and "out of the office."

American who have thus far been left behind are still searching for a way home, while Chairman of the Joint Chief's Mark Milley said that his prediction as to when terrorist activity could resume in Afghanistan has been sped up. As Kabul fell to the Taliban, who renamed the nation to the Islamic Emirates, Afghans could be seen clinging to departing planes. Some of these were able to hold on to the planes until they were airborne before dropping to their deaths.
