New footage reveals Alec Baldwin discussing gun safety with crew days before Halyna Hutchins shooting

Never before seen footage from the set of Rust obtained by NBC shows Alec Baldwin discussing gun safety with his colleagues just days before he pulled the trigger and fired a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in New Mexico in 2021.

In one of the videos, the actor can be heard warning one of the crew members, believed to be Hutchins, to get behind the camera so that he did not hit her while shooting a prop gun.



"Now wait a second, I'm gonna shoot right," he says while lying in position on the ground. "You wanna go on the other side of the camera; I don't wanna shoot toward you."

Another member of the crew echoes Baldwin's warning, saying, "Everyone who doesn't need to be right here, like, in the path of the gun, could you please move?"

In another video, Baldwin asks for a blanket to be placed off-camera onto which he can toss the gun when he's done with it.

A third clip shows the actor hastily asking for more dummy rounds in order to keep things moving. 

"One more, one more, one more," he says. "Right away, right away, let's reload."

Others show him expressing concern for the safety of the crew in other aspects of filming, such as when they need to traverse steep and uneven terrain.

The clips could be presented to the grand jury, members of which will come together this week to decide whether to refile manslaughter charges against Baldwin.

The actor had his charges dropped earlier in the year, with prosecutors citing "new facts" in the case, however the option to refile the charges was never off the table.
 

Baldwin has claimed that he didn't pull the trigger, but an FBI analysis concluded that he did. He and Rust weapons armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were both formally charged with involuntary manslaughter, respectively, in January. While his fate has been left up to a grand jury, Gutierrez-Reed still faces charges and will go on trial in February.
