"In truly cowardly fashion, the administrator behind me cloaked himself in a trans flag only after I got to the podium and removed it before I turned back around to see," said Gaines.
Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines called out a "cowardly" administrator who unveiled a trans flag during Gaines' commencement speech at Adrian College in Michigan last week, draping himself in it only after she took the podium to speak, and removing it before she turned out.
Gaines claimed she didn't realize the school administrator, who was standing behind her, was protesting her speech to her until she saw video after the event. He had draped the flag over his shoulder.
"I just watched back my commencement speech at Adrian College," Gaines wrote on X.
"In truly cowardly fashion, the administrator behind me cloaked himself in a trans flag only after I got to the podium and removed it before I turned back around to see," said Gaines.
However, the incident failed to knock Gaines' spirit, with the Outkick host saying, "Nonetheless, I got a standing ovation from the graduates and friends + families in attendance. Thanks to Adrian College for the invitation!"
Gaines rose to prominence when she became one of the first collegiate athletes to publicly speak out against trans-identified biological men competing in women's sports. A former swimmer for Kentucky, Gaines was forced to compete against UPenn trans swimmer Lia Thomas, and share a locker room with the transgender athlete.
Gaines was one of the more than a dozen collegiate athletes who sued the NCAA in March, claiming that by permitting transgender athlete Lia Thomas to compete at the national championships in 2022, the NCAA had violated their Title IX rights.
The Biden administration is actively working on changing those regulations to force all female collegiate athletes to play against men if those men claim to be women.
